No I’m not embaressed, nor do I have a sunburn.
There is also no rouge or make up of any kind on my face.
I’m red in the face because I ran 3 miles and apparently my face is allergic to sweat…or something.
I did take some time off of running last week, like I talked about on Facebook, after my little run last Monday due to a silly cold. Maybe I’m not over the cold…could that make my face fire engine red?
I was suuuper excited to go for my run today. Not so excited about the treadmill part (30 degree weather running is so not my thing so I had to take it indoors) but excited to start back up on my half mary training!!
Plus I got some brand new workout clothes! Love the feel of a fresh new outfit. Felt like a fitness expert with my matching shirt and pants. (Pretty sure none of my gym outfits are color-coordinated.)
So I was all geared up and ready to kick some running butt! On the schedule for today was 2 . 5 miles. Easy peasy.
The gym was super busy..almost all of the treadmills were taken up and I got squished between two runners who are “heel-strikers.” Read: super loud runners. I could barely hear my ipod! I finally understood the reason people get the noise-cancelling ear buds.
I was trying to figure out how to set the treadmill to a 2.5 mile run because the BF helped me last time and everytime you change your speed it tells you how much longer you have to reach your mileage goal. It’s one of those slightly entertaining things you can do on a treadmill to pass the time..(especially when you can’t hear your ipod!). Alas I could not figure out how to set a specific time but there was a 5k setting so I thought I’d be an overachiever and go for 3.1 miles.
I started out nice and slow and kept an incline of 1.0 for half of my run. I’ve found that I am one of those non-expert runners that needs to start out slow…otherwise I will have developed a cramp, burning lungs and/or a stitch in my side half-way through the run. I did somewhat of a 3-2-1 interval run and I felt pretty alright for not running for a week. I was breathing only out of my nose the whole time. Awesomeness.
I achieved my 3.1 miles and did a cool-down walk for five minutes and kept checking my heart rate to make sure it was slowing down. I think my high was in the 170s…which is pretty high…I think? Definitely in the aerobic zone.
I wiped down my machine and kept saying the stats of my run in my head (3.3 miles, 41 minutes, 375 calories) so I could remember to record them for my schedule and for dailymile.com. (note to self: bring pen and paper to the treadmill) I grabbed a mat from the stack next to a guy doing the weirdest ab workout ever…like on one of those exercise balls on his back but bouncing on the ball..like a little kid hyped up on Halloween candy. And he looked at me weird.
As I stretched my warm muscles, one of the gym managers was giving a tour of the gym and him and everyone in the tour group stared at me a little.
I put the mat away and made my way back towards the locker room, getting eyed by a couple of guys. Once I got there I thought that I should probably wash my face with some cold water…my face felt a little warm and itchy.
Then I saw. It looked like I had baked out in the sun while running a marathon in very humid weather. Ew. Red. Face.
I splashed cold water on my face and neck for a good five minutes, but really, that didn’t help much. I just decided I’d get my things together, hold my head high and walk out there with my strawberry red face.
What’s more embarrassing than just having a crazy red face is that the people that were looking at me and “eying” me were probably just in awe or horrified of my beet red complexion, not at all checking me out like my goofy ego was telling me.
I was looking up pictures of “red faces” on google and actually stumbled across an article on FitSugar about this exact topic. I am apparently either just getting a good workout..or suffering heat exhaustion..or allergic to working out (yes this is a thing). I suppose it is pretty warm at the gym…and there were a lot of people there…so maybe that is why my face got bright red?
Whatever the cause may be, I certainly do not enjoy it. Especially when I don’t feel like I did a crazy hard workout. I need to figure out how to beat this beet face!! (muahaha)
It’s time for me to head to bed!
(I wasn’t even supposed to write a post because I was forbidden by the BF until I got my Chem homework done. I hate Chem homework. Blogging is way better! 😉 )
Can anyone else relate to the beet red face phenomena?
How are your New Years resolutions coming?
