Choose what you drink wisely...

So I was with a friend and I was saying how I have never been a beer person.  She wanted to introduce me to some lemon-flavored beer and I agreed, however, we could not find this particular beer.  We decided to try a beer called Woodchuck.  A beer with a cute picture of a woodchuck holding an apple (awe)...seems docile enough right?

Well, this beer didn't taste like beer at all, more like carbonated apple cider.  So I drank one.  A whole beer.  This is seriously not normal for me.  Then we noticed that on this bottle  of beer, there were nutrition facts.  And what scary facts they were!  Each beer is 200 calories and 21 grams of sugar!  Yikes!

She got me another beer, and like a polite guest, I began to drink a second sugary-sweet beer.  Then someone made a mixed drink with "Blue" alcohol in it...another sugary drink.  I only had half a glass of this one and I could not finish the second Woodchuck half due to a sugar-high and half due to the fact that I felt drunk!  This timid-seeming beer actually had twice the amount of alcohol content as a normal beer.  Oh goodness!

So I had to be driven home, and missed church the next day, but not from being hung-over (I don't think I've even been hung over) but because of a huge stomach ache!  I was in the bathroom all morning!

Calories consumed: 300 from the beer and probably 60 from the mixed drink...sugar consumed: AT LEAST 32 grams

Needless to say, I will think twice before downing one of these sugary beverages.  Not that it was bad, but maybe I will instead have ONE with a meal....

And not that I count my calories daily, but it is very interesting to see how many calories are in foods we eat...and drinks we drink.  Check the calories in alcoholic drinks: http://caloriecount.about.com/calories-alcoholic-drinks-ic1401

Hope you all have a great 4th of July!  And beware of cute little woodchucks holding apples! :-)
